Good choices at Aurora Elementary School now earn AES Bucks, and the bucks pay off at the Positive Behavior Store! Students earn them for being kind, acting responsibly, attending school regularly, and helping with school jobs. 💵

It turns out that balancing a potato chip takes serious thinking! Mrs. Ingle's fifth-graders at Dillsboro Elementary School found that out during the Pringle Ringle challenge, where partners built a ring from Pringles using ideas from math, physics, and science.
Each pair had to plan, test, and adjust as they went. They practiced teamwork and problem-solving, and they got a very tasty reminder that learning can be fun!

Kindergarten centers can look like play, and that's part of why they work! Mrs. Conner's students at Aurora Elementary School rotated through apple-themed activities in groups of three, practicing their skills the whole time.
Because the groups were small, each student got to take part and learn alongside classmates. Apple centers made practice something the kids looked forward to. 🍎

Three stations, three builds, and a lot of marbles on the floor. Mrs. Truitt's 7th-graders at South Dearborn Middle School built roller coasters, marble runs, and magnetic racetracks, tested them, and rebuilt them until the physics worked in their favor.
Along the way they studied force, friction, gravity, inertia, acceleration, and collisions, then carried those ideas right to the Farmers Fair midway. Why does a coaster speed up on the drop? Why do seat belts exist? Thanks to these experiments, they had answers.
Critical thinking, teamwork, and a few failed designs made these lessons stick.

Today is National Coach Day, and we're saying thank you to every coach across South Dearborn Community School Corporation — the ones running practice before the sun's up, breaking down film after everyone else has gone home, and teaching student-athletes more than just the game.

Members of the South Dearborn High School Art Club spent last weekend volunteering at the 2026 Cincinnati Comic Expo at the First Financial Center.
Students greeted, checked in, and directed hundreds of guests, artists, and exhibitors as they arrived. They also worked as celebrity assistants, managing guest lines and taking photos of fans with the actors. Along the way, they got to know actors, artists, vendors, expo staff, and fellow volunteers.
This was the club's fifth year volunteering at Comic Expo. We love seeing our Knights helping out in the community!

Math practice looks a little different in Mrs. Wuestefeld's Applied Algebra class at South Dearborn High School, where students work through stations, board work, and math games to sharpen the skills they've been building.
These hands-on activities give students opportunities to collaborate, problem-solve, and apply their mathematical knowledge in a fun, interactive way.
Turns out algebra sticks a little better when you're up and moving.
Over the past week, students in Mr. Muddiman's art class at South Dearborn High School began a colored pencil project inspired by macro photography.
Before picking up a pencil, students researched macro images, those extreme close-ups that reveal textures, patterns, and colors most of us walk right past. They sketched three subjects that caught their eye, then ran through a layering and blending exercise to learn how colored pencils can build up color, value, and depth.
Now comes the real thing: one idea, one 12" x 18" sheet, and a lot of patient observation as they layer and blend their way to a realistic drawing of the subject they chose.
This lesson is more than a drawing. It's a reminder that when you slow down and look at something ordinary long enough, it starts to get interesting.
Our South Dearborn High School Cheerleaders spent Sunday morning at Union Terminal for the Jeff Wyler Fast Lane Event, meeting VIP kids, taking pictures, and handing out plenty of smiles.

Today is National School Custodian Appreciation Day, and we're saying thank you to the custodial staff who keep every South Dearborn Community School Corporation building clean, safe, and ready for our students each day.
From mopped hallways before the first bell to locked doors after the last light goes out, their work makes everything else possible, even when nobody's watching.

Then it's fall break with no school for students Monday, October 5th through Friday, October 9th.

A colony built on codfish and shipbuilding versus one built on wheat and wide religious tolerance — South Dearborn High School students in Mr. Robertson's class compared the New England and Middle Colonies this week, studying their economies, crop exports, migration, religions, and ethnic groups.
Students walked away seeing how geography and the people who settled there shaped everything that came next.

This year, Aurora Elementary is headed to South America. ✈️
Ms. Friedhoff takes her students to a different continent each year, exploring the culture, history, and art along the way. So far, they've studied the Amazon Rainforest and the Amazon River, with Día de los Muertos, "The Day of the Dead," still ahead.
Every grade has its own subject, and they're all working in mixed media:
🌎 Kindergarten and 1st grade are studying the jeweled lizard, found in Chile.
🌎 2nd and 3rd grade are creating abstract orchids, a nod to the 4,000-plus orchid varieties found in Ecuador.
🌎 4th and 5th grade took on the anaconda, which can grow past 30 feet. That's roughly the length of a school bus.
Some students have even volunteered to take apple crates home to paint as pieces of the Amazon River.
We can't wait to see the rainforest come together at Knight of the Arts this year!
Our student leaders at South Dearborn Middle School and Aurora Elementary School joined forces to raise $1,000 for the Imagination Library of Dearborn County, honoring Dolly Parton's lifelong commitment to literacy. At roughly $1.30 per book, that's about 770 books headed to local kids.
To celebrate, students and staff marked September 25 as Wear Pink Day. Then they took it a step further: SDMS student leaders visited classrooms throughout Aurora Elementary to Drop Everything and Read with their younger Knights.
We're so proud of these young leaders for showing what students can do when they decide to make a difference.

Earlier, it was vocabulary words and proving answers with evidence from the text. Now, it's life science through the pages of National Geographic. Mrs. McClure's fourth-graders at Dillsboro Elementary School made the switch after finishing their vocabulary assessment and are excited to apply the new words they learned through their non-fiction reading!
