Different tasks, same goal: building the phonics, spelling, and early reading skills that make every book after this one a little easier.

Then it's fall break with no school for students Monday, October 5th through Friday, October 9th.
We hope our students, staff, and families enjoy the fair and a well-earned break. We'll see everyone back Monday, October 12th!

Students walked away seeing how geography and the people who settled there shaped everything that came next.

This year, Aurora Elementary is headed to South America. ✈️
Ms. Friedhoff takes her students to a different continent each year, exploring the culture, history, and art along the way. So far, they've studied the Amazon Rainforest and the Amazon River, with Día de los Muertos, "The Day of the Dead," still ahead.
Every grade has its own subject, and they're all working in mixed media:
🌎 Kindergarten and 1st grade are studying the jeweled lizard, found in Chile.
🌎 2nd and 3rd grade are creating abstract orchids, a nod to the 4,000-plus orchid varieties found in Ecuador.
🌎 4th and 5th grade took on the anaconda, which can grow past 30 feet. That's roughly the length of a school bus.
Some students have even volunteered to take apple crates home to paint as pieces of the Amazon River.
We can't wait to see the rainforest come together at Knight of the Arts this year!

Our student leaders at South Dearborn Middle School and Aurora Elementary School joined forces to raise $1,000 for the Imagination Library of Dearborn County, honoring Dolly Parton's lifelong commitment to literacy. At roughly $1.30 per book, that's about 770 books headed to local kids.
To celebrate, students and staff marked September 25 as Wear Pink Day. Then they took it a step further: SDMS student leaders visited classrooms throughout Aurora Elementary to Drop Everything and Read with their younger Knights.
We're so proud of these young leaders for showing what students can do when they decide to make a difference.
Want to help continue the story?
Parents and guardians: Children from birth to age 5 can receive a free, age-appropriate book mailed to their home each month. Check availability and enroll through the official Imagination Library website.
Community members: Donations help put more books in the hands of Dearborn County kids, and you can designate your gift to a specific local program partner.
Every child deserves to discover what's inside a book. Let's keep those stories arriving in mailboxes across Dearborn County.

South Dearborn Schools thank the Laughery Valley FOP Lodge #146 Auxiliary for their generous donation of personal hygiene items, clothing, shoes, and other essentials for our students and families.
Their kindness goes far beyond the items themselves. Thanks to this donation, our students have what they need to feel comfortable, confident, cared for, and ready to learn each day. They also have a reminder that their community truly has their back.
We're grateful for the Auxiliary's continued support and the real difference it makes in students' lives. Thank you for giving so generously!

It's a skill that shows up everywhere outside the classroom, including a weather forecast, an economic growth chart, or charts on the evening news.

Pre-sale tickets are discounted and available now in each school's office. Grab yours early and skip the line at the gate. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate our outgoing senior players! 🏈

It's a skill that pays off well beyond the classroom, whether that's a job site or a garage workbench at home.

It's finally here: Homecoming Friday!
The Knights host Madison Consolidated High School tonight at 7:00pm, and we can't wait to fill the stands with cheers.
Grab your seat, bring your voice, and let's give our Knights the send-off they deserve. See you tonight!

It might look like a small formatting lesson, but it's really the first page of something bigger: these kids just became writers with their own stories to tell! 📝

That one-on-one time made the difference — sounding out words out loud, getting help in the moment, and building fluency and comprehension along the way.
It's the kind of practice that turns sounding out words into actually reading them and understanding the collective meaning they convey.

This semester, they're teaming up with eighth-grade PLTW Medical Detective students on a Natural Disasters project, designing an app to help first responders and volunteers diagnose and track illnesses after major flooding. With a scenario set in a downtown area evacuated to emergency shelters, the app has to be simple, reliable, and fast.
Once their designs are finished, students will present them to eighth graders and the Emergency Management Board for feedback and approval. It's the kind of project that shows what PLTW is all about: giving students a real-world problem worth solving.

At each stop, students will snap a photo with Frankie, introduce him to new faces, and log the visit — date, location, people met, a special memory — building a four-adventure scrapbook by the end.
It's a project built on communication and presentation skills, one new friend at a time.

Did you know breakfast is served every school day? Students can get a filling breakfast starting at 7:30 AM at Aurora Elementary, Dillsboro Elementary, South Dearborn Middle School, and South Dearborn High School. Each meal includes whole grains, fruit, and milk, the fuel kids need to focus, learn, and take on the day ahead.
So before the bell rings, make sure your Knight grabs a bite. A good breakfast is a great way to start the day!

Save yourself the wait at the gate; discounted pre-sale tickets are available now in each school's office.
We look forward to seeing the whole community coming out to enjoy all the homecoming festivities and to cheer on our Knights! 📣

It's building the kind of number sense that makes everything from temperatures to bank balances easier to read.
