The Indiana General Assembly recently passed Senate Bill 78, which prohibits the use of wireless communication devices — including cell phones, smart watches, and Meta glasses — during the entire school day, effective July 1st, 2026. In short: bell to bell, off, away, all day.

What that means for students:

• Devices must be powered off.
• Devices must be stored out of sight.
• Devices cannot be accessed at any point during the school day, including passing periods and lunch.

Students may still use cell phones and other communication devices before and after school, during after-school activities, or at school-related functions outside the school day. As always, devices may never be used anywhere a reasonable expectation of privacy exists, including restrooms and locker rooms.
