Ms. Seig's students at Aurora Elementary School picked up scissors this week for a different kind of spelling practice — snipping out the missing vowel and gluing it into place to finish each word.

From Monday, September 14th through Friday, September 18th, students at both schools will compete — grade vs. grade at SDMS, class vs. class at AES — to raise the most spare change, with a prize for the top group at each school.

Ms. Rayner's fourth-graders at Aurora Elementary School spent day one trying to guess their teacher's favorite food, worst habit, and everything in between with a game of teacher trivia.
Every wrong guess got a laugh. Every right one got a cheer. By the end, the class knew a lot more about Ms. Rayner — and felt a lot more comfortable raising their hands.

Between place value, journal writing, and partner reading to build fluency, the class has also started an author study on Mo Willems, complete with a character analysis of the Pigeon in his stories like "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus." Students are taking turns partner reading and discussing the story closely with Mrs. Petty.
A good routine and a good book go a long way in second grade. This class seems to have found both!

Aurora Elementary School's Future Knights Before the Bell program drew number 16 for this week's prize, rewarding the students who show up on time, ready to learn, day after day.

Mrs. Groves handed Aurora Elementary School students a rubber band, four strings, and a stack of red Solo cups — then told them to build a pyramid without touching a single cup with their hands!
Working in teams inside the library and media center, students pulled the strings in sync to lift, tilt, and stack the cups, no hands allowed. One person pulling too hard and the whole tower came down.
Turns out building a cup pyramid is really a lesson in listening to each other. Nobody wins this one alone.

South Dearborn Community Schools will dismiss at 2:30pm this afternoon due to the impending weather threat. Special transportation students will be released at 1:45pm. Campus car riders need to be picked up at 2:15pm. DES car riders should be picked at 2:30pm. All after school activities are canceled today.
Bus service will be provided today as normal.
Parents of preschool students will be contacted by their teachers. After Care will still be provided. If you are unable to get here by the designated time, your student will be placed in After Care until you are able to get here.
