On October 19th, the Southeast Indiana Robotics league hosted the first of four events for the 2021-2022 season at Aurora Elementary School. Twenty-seven middle and elementary school teams from the area competed in the VEX IQ Challenge "Pitching In." We want to thank all of the volunteers and coaches for making this event happen. For information on this year's VEX IQ Challenge, watch this video. loom.ly/hVdD-TQ #VEXIQ #RECFoundation #VEXrobotics

The Advanced Life Science: Plant & Soil students have been busy this year! On top of their normal class standards, they have made plans for the school greenhouse through researching how to properly maintain a proper living environment for plants and tilapia both. "As their teacher I cannot say enough on how much they amaze and inspire me!" says Mrs. Melissa Andrew. The students created an inventory sheet with cost estimates, wrote detailed donation letters, and learned how to... compose proper thank you letters. Prior to fall break, they sent out the donation letters to numerous community businesses. Students were quickly contacted by Zimmer Tractor, a local business, who was excited to help sponsor the project by donating to help purchase supplies. Noah Jackson and Kori Corneet, students in the class and FFA members, were able to accept the check over fall break. Thank you Zimmer Tractor for your generosity! @zimmertractor

Second grade students at Aurora Elementary School recently learned about tall tales and did activities with apples. They sampled various types of apples, graphed their favorite, made applesauce, and read stories about the likes of John Henry, Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, and other tall tales. They made three dimensional pictures of their favorite tall tale and drew Johnny Appleseed. Students here are pictured with their apple graph.

Mrs. Metz's 1st-grade class had a great time building go-carts, just like Rafael and Maya in the story "Going Places." After reading the story, the students used their go-cart kits to create their cars. They each customized their carts with different items to add weight. Lastly, they raced, and Juliet won with the fastest time of 0.33 seconds!
